Wandering with the Trews.

Reaching their 25th year as a band, the Trews kicked off the 2023 year with their first gig at the Foundation Room at the House of Blues in Boston, MA. The Trews is a Canadian rock Alt/Indie Rock from Antigonish, Nova Scotia. The band currently consists of Colin MacDonald (vocals), John-Angus MacDonald (guitarist), Jack Syperek (bassist), and Josh Macintosh (drums).

Taken from a song from Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life, they were originally titled One I’d Trouser which transformed into Trouser and then eventually into The Trews. With 25 years of music under their belts, their discography is large with 7 studio albums as well as 5 EPs. Their most recognizable would songs are Not Ready to Go off of the album House of III Fame (2004), Highway of Heroes off of the album Time Capsule (2016), and Poor Ol’ Broken Hearted Me off of the album Den of Thieves (2005).

Their show on the night of Tuesday, January 24th was very intimate and a great way to kick off the 2023 year. Situated at the top of the House of Blues in Boston, the Foundation Room is a very warm and cozy bar like lounge that was perfect environment for The Trews. Being able to experience this show in such a comfortable venue on a cold and icy winter night, made the music seem even more special. Although they’re not my usual type of music, there’s no denying the talent that all of these men hold. They hold they had on the audience that night can not be overlooked, and their songs just give a very strong feeling of comfort and even nostalgia.

If you have the chance to see them on their current acoustic tour on the east coast, I would highly recommend you go and see them. They will not disappoint.
