Gel return to Colorado for two blazing sold out shows

New Jersey hardcore outfit Gel arrived in Denver this weekend to kick off a pair of Colorado Shows as they continue on their fall US tour.

Seventh Circle Music Collective hosted Friday’s 5 band bill including local Colorado acts Sewer Slide, Wide Man, Destiny Bond, Public Opinion, and a surprise set from bay area hardcore heavy weights Scowl.

Teased as a “surprise guest” Scowl waltzed into the venue following Public Opinion’s set and kicked off their second set of the night (Having just played no more than 2 hours prior, opening for The Bronx’s tour alongside Drug Church and The Chats). By happen stance a few of Scowl’s tour dates ran parallel with Gel’s, the bands playing different venues in the same city on the same night. The two bands play together often and shared the stage in Denver a year ago during Convulse Records 3 year anniversary weekend festival.

The energy in the packed room erupted further as Gel hit the stage. The mosh pit grew larger and dives bigger as concert attendees leapt from the top of PA’s and swung from rafters above the crowd. The crowd outgrew the space with those unlucky enough to squeeze inside pushing to get a view through the open garage door at the back of the venue.

The latter half of Gel’s Colorado concerts was a matinee house show at Boulder’s Blue House. Jam packed in the living room of a quaint suburban home, Gel brought the same intensity that they bring night after night. The crowd’s energy matched right back, launching the confines of Blue House’s living room into a wall to wall push pit. Constant crowd surfers floated above the room, heads a mere few inches below the drywall ceiling.

Gel’s tour has been a grab bag of DIY and commercial venue shows. Before making their way to Denver, a late venue change in Vegas had the band rocking the back yard of a house show, attendees moshing below the band in an empty swimming pool. A few weeks prior Gel rocked a New Jersey Sonic Drive-In (Captured on video by the iconic Hate5Six). Gel kicks ass with the same blazing intensity at every venue they play, no matter how obscure. It would be foolish to skip out on seeing this band live.

Catch Gel on the remainder of their headlining tour as well as opening for Ceremony this fall.
