J. Cole Releases New Single "Album of the Year (Freestyle)

ZACH MCSWAIN

Just yesterday, J. Cole sent out a tweet saying “Feed me beats. Everything getting murdered.” Well, it didn’t take him long because today he released his new single, titled “Album of the Year (Freestyle)”. The single samples the song “Oochie Wally” by Nas and the Bravehearts. This same beat was also sampled in “She Wildin” by Fabolous and Chris Brown. As always with J. Cole, he shows off his lyrical prowess, cultural references, and sheer self-confidence. The track is a good start for Cole’s first solo release since the success of his most recent album K.O.D. and leading up to his next album, presumably titled The Fall Off. Until then, however, we can only hope that people keep on feeding Cole tracks.
