Moon Hooch: Brass meets house Music

Not one person can get through a Moon Hooch show without dancing! Ravers and brass enthusiasts alike came out to the Broadberry in Richmond, Virginia this past Wednesday to get down. The duo, Mike Wilbur and Wenzel McGowen, are saxophonists that mix house dance music, electronic sounds, and jazz fusion. The whole show is truly an endurance test that wows the audience as they jump around the stage all while powering through impressive solos. There is rarely a pause in between songs to keep the groove going. It is hard to describe the music as it is so unique. Synthetic sounds have never felt so authentic and natural until seeing it played through a variety of saxophones. They keep the show going all night with even adding an intermission.

This was my second time seeing Moon Hooch a few years back and other audience members shared the same sentiment with one fan saying this was their “third or fifth seeing them” and they would “never miss it.” Moon Hooch’s cult following has been like no other with people all over the world getting inspired by their workshops, Permaculture Action Days, and other events promoting sustainability. They currently have an environmentally conscious goal of planting trees across the world while on tour. In order to make their goal come true, they raffle off a tree every concert. The lucky winner gets a picture with them on stage and of course, the tree.

Moon Hooch is an unforgettable night out that takes you home sweaty and satisfied. For anyone wanting to dance but appreciate some incredible musicians, go check out their tour!
