Show Review: Madi Diaz brings the ‘Weird Faith' tour to Denver’s Bluebird Theater

Madi Diaz’s ‘Weird Faith’ has been one of our favorite albums of 2024 thus far. After years of releasing stellar music and amassing a steadily growing fanbase, the Nashville singer/songwriter has reached new heights over the past year. With highlights including touring with Harry Styles and national TV performances.

With these big achievements under her belt, seeing Madi perform in a smaller-intimate venue such as the Bluebird Theater truly was a treat. The night was opened up by Colorado's own Patrick Dethlefs, followed by fellow Nashville artist Daniel Nunnelee. Both arrived onstage for solo performances that set the tone for the night. While many attendees were familiar with Patrick as a rising star in the Colorado Music scene, Daniel Nunnelee was a welcome surprise for many first time listeners and the emotion and storytelling in his indie/folk songs quickly had the crowd entranced.

Madi’s arrival to the stage instantly made it feel as if the Bluebird Theater shrunk. Madi’s humble presence and kind interactions with fans created the sense as if she were performing in the smallest of clubs. Instantly breaking the wall between performer and crowd with vulnerable and charming banter. Exclaiming how excited and surprised she was for the large turnout on an early weeknight.

In the highest of compliments, Madi Diaz’s live versions of songs are even better than the album versions. Which seems nearly impossible with how well produced, recorded, and mixed each of her albums are. But the emotion captured in those albums are exponentially expanded when she is in front of a crowd. The lyrics cut even deeper as she feeds off the crowd's energy. Nothing is as powerful as an artist that can stand alone on a stage and command a room with nothing more than their voice and a guitar. Madi is proving that she is one of the most powerful and talented artists in her realm.

Madi left everything on the Bluebird’s stage. Fully vulnerable, sharing emotional stories behind the lyrics off of the ‘Weird Faith’ track list. Fans roared and cheered and encouraged Madi, treating her like a friend and she reciprocated that kind energy back to the crowd.

As Madi thanked the crowd one final time following her encore performance of Weird Faith’s title track, tears streamed down her face. In a later Instagram post about that moment Madi thanked fans, “Thank you for bringing so much incredible joy into these spaces and singing with me”. It truly was Madi’s amazing performance that brought the reciprocated joy and countless other emotions to life in her stunning show at the Bluebird.

The Weird Faith Tour continues on with a handfull of shows on the west coast before Madi heads to Europe to support Kacey Musgraves on the Deeper Well World Tour.
