This Weeks Releases: Gouge Away, Taking Meds, Kacey Musgraves, Hana Vu + More

For the Week of March 15th 2024, these are the releases that should be jamming from your speakers.

LP- Gouge Away : Deep Sage

One of our most highly anticipated releases, Gouge Away’s third album is finally here. With the pandemic putting Gouge Away into hiatus it was unclear if we would see another record following 2018’s Burnt Sugar. Deep Sage highlights the sonic evolution of the band over the past 6 years will putting forward a record that highlights what fans have come to love. The blend of hardcore influences, 90s punk, and noise rock meld perfectly with Christina Michelle’s unique vocals. The album might not be as blisteringly aggressive as past releases but the raw emotion is captured perfectly and this is one we will have on repeat for a long time.

Single - Hana Vu : Hammer

“Hammer is one of the first songs I wrote for this record. It’s one of those songs you write to yourself amidst existential crisis. Maybe that’s what all songs are.” With the May 3rd release of Vu’s album Romanticism just around the corner, Hammer brings big feels and even more anticipation for Vu’s forthcoming album. The music video for Hammer directed by Henry Kaplan is equally as stunning as the song. Romanticism will be a release not to be missed!

EP- Taking Meds : Ext Meds

New York rockers Taking Meds 2023 release of Dial M For Meds was one of the freshest breaths of rock music. Ext Meds is a 3 song EP containing 2 b-sides from that release as well as a killer cover of My Bloody Valentines ‘Drive It All Over Me’. ‘Slow Leak’ is a ripping alt-rock tune that brings all the best vibes from 90s rock. ‘Happy Yet’ is a slower more emotional ballad that still hits on everything that Taking Meds does so well.

EP - Kiss Bang : Horrors of Your Hometown

Kiss Bang, The musical union of Los Angeles’ Kaya Steward and Max Mercier have shared their debut 4 song EP and it is an earworm right away. The title song is a timeless pop banger that will have you dancing instantly. The heavy distorted guitar riffs are a perfect juxtaposition to Kaya’s dreamy vocals. Each song on the 12 minute EP highlight the duos stellar musicianship and will have you yearning for more music from Kiss Bang.

EP- Holly Humberstone : Work In Progress

British singer/songwriter Holly Humberstone has become such a standout artist with the releases of 2022’s Can You Afford To Lose Me? and 2023’s Paint My Bedroom Black. The 4 song EP Work In Progress fells like just like the title proclaims in the best way. Work In Progress builds a bridge between what her previous releases have been, to the exciting progression of her musical expression yet to come. All while deepening the defining factors we have come to love from Holly.

LP - Kacey Musgraves : Deeper Well

Country-pop icon Kacey Musgrave’s 7th studio album is an introspective back to basics record. Co-produced by long time collaborators Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk, Deeper Well is gorgeously produced with vintage folk vibes that make for a lovely listen through and through.
