Today, Madrid-based dream-pop artist april june announces her great return with her newest EP baby’s out of luck that comes out August 2nd.

This EP comes hot off of her 2020 EP feelings on the internet, it also co-exists with her 2022 Yot-Club assisted single “stuck on you”, and her 2023 single “it’s all my fault.” These singles and her last EP have garnered June all the right attention, having found her music published on Spotify’s New Music Friday and more!

Having begun her career as a student studying at Bard College in New York, where she began composing her music reminiscent of Lana Del Rey-meets-Cocteau Twins dream pop, she describes how she creates this cinematic sound,

“One of my favorite writing exercises is to put on a film and switch off the sound,”

“Then compose the song by looking at the screen. It's based on a mood or idea that I saw in a movie or in a [TV] series. I'm always consuming so many films and series.”

In creating music in such a unique way, it is natural that certain thematic elements remain throughout, with many of June’s primary themes revolving around nostalgia, love, loss, and coming-of-age uncertainty.

The EP itself features the already released title track “baby’s out of luck,” and her 2023 single “it’s all my fault.”

Having drawn inspiration from countless classic films like True Romance, Virgin Suicides, and Le Beau Mariage, she channels these ideas to create a euphoric-like sound with her crystalline vocals over ethereal synths.

As a musician who traditionally releases songs on a single-to-single basis, april june is stepping out of her comfort zone with a long-form record, “The last time I recorded something this long was 10 years ago,” she reflects. “It's much easier, psychologically, to let go of a song that you've written, as opposed to an album… This EP’s very special to me. It just has more weight to it.”

The “baby’s out of luck” EP comes out 08/02 via NETTWERK Music Group, and is certainly not one to be missed!
